Production Description

Casting short film "Mayfly", from director Alexa Wynter.

Alexa Wynter is a New York-based artist-filmmaker. Her work explores mind-object identity, and her filmography include America Online (2018), a narrative about media, morality and identity. This work screened at Tribeca Film Center’s Video Art and Experimental Film Festival in November 2018; NYWIFT’s Online Shorts Festival in January 2019; and Anthropology Film Archives’ NewFilmmakers Festival in July 2019.

Synopsis

Set in a future where one company’s experiments have produced organic humans, in the form of two female droids named Inaru and Shararu. These beings look, act like, and are even capable of experiencing real emotion like humans do; despite their similarities to us, both of these intelligent machines are hindered by one utmost flaw.

Inaru (Lead): Female, 40 - 60

Brilliant, Graceful; Afro-Caribbean, Taino

Mother and creator of Areitax, Inina is a woman who has a relative brilliance in this specific discipline of human enhancement, where she engages in this craft, she is completely immersed in it and loses track of time; what she creates is bigger than herself because she relaxed and allowed herself to work outside of her usual boundaries to subvert the male and colonial gaze; there’s a certain beauty in her that she doesn’t see, but Areitax does; note: We are open to a mother-daughter pair 40+ and 20s for Inina and Areitax respectively, please note in your cover letter if you are applying as a pair.

A fledgling droid who is able to quickly assess what’s being presented to her, determine whether it stacks up factually and logically, and expose any holes; she can also pinpoint where she might be confused, and further explore that area before arriving at a conclusion; note: We are open to a mother-daughter pair 40+ and 20s for Inina and Areitax respectively, please note in your cover letter if you are applying as a pair; slight nudity, back of body.
