Synopsis

A young, lab-created girl who quickly learns that she does not belong, while navigating hardships that only a synthetic human can face. Leaving her adoptive parents behind, she sets out to discover a new place of residence.

Roles

Nefeli (Lead): Female, 18 - 25

Affable, obliging, guileless. Nefeli is a 15-year-old Jamaican artificial teenage girl and adoptive daughter to Alexander and Thalia. She is one day old, and therefore, lacks any real-world human experience. She is lost and rejected until she befriends another synthetic girl, Temple.

Skills: Controlled Movement; Ballet/Contemporary dance experience preferred
Dialects: Jamaican Patois (fluent/good command)

Temple (Supporting): Female, 18 - 25

Bold, strong, courageous. A 15-year-old Puerto Rican/Hispaniolan artificial teenage girl, who quickly becomes Nefeli’s only friend of virtue. More mature at six months old, she uses the information that she knows to protect and support Nefeli in finding a new home. She becomes a victim of vandalism and is murdered by her classmates at school, who dislike and feel threatened by intelligent machines.

Skills: Controlled Movement; Contemporary dance experience preferred
Accents/Dialects: Puerto Rican, Haitian, or of the Dominican Republic

Thalia (Supporting): Female, 35 - 40

Charismatic, charming. A mature woman whose life centers around her home, marriage, and her aching desire to become a mother. After her disappointing search to be a mother, she gives in and adopts a synthetic child, Nefeli, along with the help of her supportive husband, Alexander. However, she comes to an eventual realization that her love for Nefeli doesn’t go as deep to satisfy this visceral need, after being confronted with the many complexities of raising a synthetic child.

Accents/Dialects: Jamaican (fluent/good command)

Alexander (Supporting): Male, 45 - 50

Practical, absolute. A very successful businessman, and husband to Thalia. He is unable to have children, but is open to starting a family. Unlike Thalia, he is less emotionally invested in Nefeli, even regarding her as a family pet, or a convenient accessory.

Accents/Dialects: Any Caribbean (fluent)

News Anchor (Actor): Male/Female, 35

The News Anchor has an instinctive desire to advocate for these artificial humans through their reporting/coverage.

Skills: Voiceover or news reading experience a plus, but not required
Accents/Dialects: US Virgin Islands; Other Caribbean (fluent/good command)
